Arcane Convergence

Linda Trope and Adam Zynger are the two artists unknown to each other, matched by their inadvertent drift towards geometry and quest for definition – an arcane convergence.

Trope draws her stereotype images using mixed media and following fluid and intertwined curves symmetrically interpolated into figures, which constitute signature of the artist. The parallel circles, and lines on a delicate grid of engineered background to figurative symbolism evolving around similar theme create a symmetric dance pattern. The grid background, which may not be evident in the final version, the use of rapidograph pen and stippling pattern give us the clues of her geometric inclination and a desire to capture and “freeze” the quintessence of dance in motion. They have the primordial mark of the cave paintings and Greek vase decorations.

Zynger, by a fractal search and discovery, a pursuit-n-capture, arrived at similar results albeit resulting in totally abstract images with life of their own. His work shows a persistent drive toward rhythm, clarity, repetition, and added mutation to the equation. Yes, this art is based on actual fractal equations, which allow for iteration, “errors” and new discoveries. While he doesn’t manually draw the images, it is his art background, which allows him to formulate the art image out of spectacular fractal chaos. These discoveries represent an unusual richness of patterns frequently possessing some elements of what we consider a reality yet drastically divergent from the same. It reminds us of a concept of multipotent stem cells capable of giving rise to specific tissues and organs.

This apparent readiness to pre-form and diverge from known configurations is not totally at odds with real findings in sciences, or, for that matter, of an artist, who metaphorically alters known connotation, be it of color, shape or symbol, say, Gauguin ‘s pink sands. The message is, the elements are there – the nature and we create new entities out of predetermined structures. Thus neither art imitates life nor life, art. It’s a proof that these two entities coexist independently, both capable of viable pursuits.
