Plein Air Acrylics and/or Oils
One-day workshop
\"En plein air\" is a French expression which means \"in the open air\", and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors. Instead of painting in a studio, the artist moves outdoors to directly capture the beauty of their surroundings.
All levels and experiences are welcome!
The course will focus on the basics of painting outdoors, how to find a good composition and identifying a focal point, building an under painting, laws of colour, contrast, colour mixing, stroke expression.
The instructor will give demonstrations and personal tuition.
Date: Saturday June 8, 2013 - 10 am to 4 pm
In the event of bad weather conditions, class will be rescheduled to Sat. June 15.
Ages: 15 and up
Location: Light of the Prairies Centre, Lorette, Manitoba... a beautiful environment in the heart of Manitoba Prairies

Supplies needed:
-table easel or stand easel ..or anything suitable to hold the canvas.
-folding table (optional)
-pencil and small sketch pad
-folding stool or chair (optional)
-clamps to hold canvas to the easel in case there is wind
-one stretched canvas or canvas board - min. size 8x10 in. - max. size 12x16 in
-For beginners: selection or acrylics. Basic colours: white, black, yellow, red, blue
-advanced: acrylics or oils
-palette and palette knife
-brushes: small, medium and large size, # 2 to #12 flat and/or rounded
-rags or paper towels & tin cans
-a bottle of water for cleaning and diluting acrylic paint
-mineral spirits for cleaning and diluting oil paint
-a plastic bag for disposal
-the artist's personal gear... sunhat, sunblock, insect cream, etc... and lunch!
We will be breaking for lunch for 40-45 mins. You can bring something to eat or you can have lunch at the Centre ($8).
The Studio may have 3 or 4 easels to lend and a chair or a stool.
