Contest Rules

I only had my Smart PhoneREAD THIS FIRST - Multiple entries have been submitted that show significant and major post camera work. Please note that this is a smart phone photo contest, not a contest to show what can be done to an image with apps or with photoshop. Some minor tweaking of a photo is fine, but not a major reworking or recreating of a shot into something different. Reducing noise, adjusting contrast and saturation, removing an unwanted object, or similar modifications are great, and often needed on cell phone shots, but please no more entries that are more reflective of what you can do with an app or with your photoshop or lightroom skills please!

4/22/15 - A few people are continuing to submit heavily edited photographs. So that there will be no misunderstanding, if you submit something that looks like it is heavily edited, using any app or photo editing software, I will be deleting it without further comment.

THE SUPER FANTASTIC 'I ONLY HAD MY SMART PHONE' PHOTO CONTEST!! We have all been there. We saw something that we knew would make a great photo, but didn't have a real camera with us. So what did we do? We shot it with our smart phone!

Great equipment helps, but we all know that it is the photographer who makes the shot, not the camera.

So to all those people who have said to us in the past, 'Wow, that is a great shot. You must have a great camera,' it is time to show what we can do (even if we actually took the photo with our phone!)

The rules are simple:

(1) Only photographs taken with a smart phone, cell phone, or a tablet are eligible. (in other words, nothing that is primarily identifiable as a 'camera').

(2) Each photographer may submit 5 images.

(3) No nudity or anything that isn't family friendly.

(4) Obviously, some post camera work is acceptable since most smart phone shots will need some tweaking, but the contest is primarily about what you can produce with a the basic 'camera' function of a smart phone, not to show how great you are at creating something with photoshop or an app. As such, please NOTHING SIGNIFICANTLY MANIPULATED!

So there will be no misunderstanding, ANY SIGNIFICANTLY MANIPULATED IMAGES WILL BE DELETED!!!!!! The rules are there so that we are all playing on a level playing field. This is not a contest about what you can do with photoshop, apps, or anything else that makes the image significantly different from what was produced by the basic photo function in your smart phone, cell phone, or table.

Spread the word on this contest. Obviously, this is not your typical contest. Solicit votes, get attention, and show the world that it is the photographer who makes the photo, not the equipment!

I reserve the right to send a message to any photographer who submits a photo to request them to identify the type of smart phone the photo was taken with. In my sole discretion, if I am not satisfied with the response, or the lack thereof, or if I really am not convinced that the shot is with a cell phone, then I reserve the right to delete the photo.
