Yah Moves Mountains

Yah does move mountains! I have been energized by the discovery of a new medium for me! I LOVE to work in soft pastels. Who knew? All my life, I've preferred pencils. "Black and white (and shades of gray) are easier to leave open for people to fill in the blanks with their feelings. Whether day or night, summer, fall, winter, or spring. For the most part, they are all up to the viewer in black and white." This was my philosophy even though what got me started was watching Bob Ross on television and wishing I could paint with oils like he did. He was always so relaxed (on t.v. Anyway) and I thought, "if oil painting does that for him and for me too even though I'm only watching, I had to learn to paint beautiful scenes in oils too. Well, I didn't have any oils or paintbrushes, canvases, paint thinner, magic black and white, palette knives, and so on. These things cost money and being a high school student didn't pay very well (at all unless I got took lls). I decided to sketch the images he painted in pencil to preserve them for the day when I would, finally, be able to get my paint and supplies and get busy turning those sketches into paintings. It never happened. Oh I did later on buy a few brushes and some paint and a canvas. I even made an attempt to use them but, by that time, me and my pencils were thick as thieves. Now I've discovered that pastels are as capable of visually expressing places that I imagined walking through to aid in relaxing and calming my spirit as pencils have been and, not only that, they do it easier because the surface is bigger which covers large areas quicker. I can be more detailed in less time. For me, this is a dream come true. Though I graduated from trying to reproduce images that Bob Ross created a long time ago, I feel like I can now achieve a more in depth representation of the scenic route to my inner tranquility like he did in oil paint. I'm still learning what's possible with this medium but I'm getting there. Walk with me.
