Why Apres

You may wonder why I or some one else would paint a copy of some other artist's work. For me it's a way to get back in the groove of painting. I don't have figure out composition, color palette or try to come with something to paint or draw. Sometimes feel the emotion behind the work of art. I don't have to think for a while only paint or draw. And in a way, I get to know the artist better.

Art is a journey. Doing an apres, takes me back in history. Imagine the early 1900's, the art world is beginning to change dramtically. Rubbing elbows or paint brushes with Picasso, Braque, Matisse and all the other early innovators of "modern art". What an exciting time to be an artist!

The struggles they faced were incredible. Along with trying to make enough money to survive, World War 1 was on the horizon. Art critics were aghast with how they where expressing their creativity. They never gave up. They kept pursuing their dreams.

So for a short time, I can go back there and lose myself in the mystic of the era.
