I owned an art gallery for 36 years and tried to help my artists as well as pay them asap. I found that most artists do not understand how much it costs to show and sell a painting. I had several who sent people to my gallery to see their work then sold on the side.
I am now on other side of the relationship. Some galleries are dishonest and keep the money for your art. So I guess the problem goes two ways.
My thoughts are that if your are not satisfied with your gallery move on.
