What is a Mandala?

What is a Mandala?

The word Mandala is from Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language developed over 2,300 years ago. Loosely translated it means "circle". It represents wholeness and can be seen as a model for the organizational structure of life itself - a cosmic diagram that reminds us of our relationship to the infinite, the world that extends both beyond and within our bodies and minds.

We find examples of Mandalas in many spiritual traditions worldwide. They focus and reflect the spiritual content of the psyche for both the maker and the viewer.

Many people use mandalas to enhance their health, both physically and emotionally.

Used as tools for meditation they contain visual messages through shape, color and symbolism that connect us with higher levels of consciousness.

While meditating on a mandala they can experience an opening within themselves. Within this space they can connect to spiritual energies and the higher self to promote oneness and healing.
