Watercolor Tip Mr Clean Magic Eraser

So, for my first post I thought I would make it world changing, earth shattering, and profound. Mmmm…not this time! ;-)

How about a simple little tip that I learned from a student in my watercolor class this past weekend (thanks Carolyn Shafer).
For those watercolor painters among us, there are times we all might like to lift some paint off the paper that we have already painted. I have to admit, I don’t often try to fix…I prefer to just work with whatever has happened (I call them flopportunities). But, there are occasions when I have thought a watercolor “eraser” would be mighty handy. Especially one that does not rip a hole in my watercolor paper. (boo!)

Lo and behold, such a thing does exist and you won’t find from your art supplies provider, but rather from somewhere that carries cleaning supplies. Are you ready? Wait for it…. It is the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. You can get them in the cleaning pad version…they look like white sponges…cut them up in pieces and use them as an eraser. Awesome!

The true test was giving it a go on Phthlalo Blue. As you might know, Phthlalos are notoriouslystaining. I was very surprised to see the pigment lift right up and beautiful white, non-shredded paper left behind. Ahhhh…

So, with that little nugget I shall sign off from this first blog post and endeavor to post something a little less intense and philosophical next time. In the meantime, I encourage you to check out the rest of my website, especially the www.chrisblevinswatercolors.com/teaching-schedule page where upcoming workshops are listed and you will learn nifty little tips like this one…and more.

So long for now. In gratitude,

Chris, The Unexpected Artist
