Waking to a new dawn

As usual we were wakened from a sound sleep and given coffee and tea plus some biscuits while it was still dark outside. We threw on our clothes including jackets to meet the new dawn (it is cold in Africa in the early morning). Driving out of camp we came upon a pride of lions sleeping by the roadside. The light was too low to take pictures (and nothing was happening) so after a brief stop we drove on. We did not find any activity for the next hour so we ventured back to the sleeping lions. Guess what, they were still sleeping. However the cubs were waking up and peeking at us. This group of three poked their heads above mother’s belly as the light level increased and we got a photo.
