Visiting Alaska

Not very many people get the opportunity to visit Alaska. In fact I hadn't really planned to go there for several reasons. The main reasons were that I don't like the cold, and I thought it would cost more than I could afford. In 2013 I heard that a friend of my mom's was getting married in Alaska in June 2014. They knew I was a photographer and loved my work. I was excited when I got the call from them asking if I would photograph their Alaska wedding. Of Course!!! How could I turn that down. We just made it one big family vacation!

They got married in Talkeetna Alaska. A few days before, we flew into Anchorage, and drove up to Talkeetna. For 4 days it rained non-stop including the day we visited Denali National Park which is normal during the summer. Even through the rain, it was beautiful, we just couldn't see the top of the mountains. Right after the wedding, the sun came out and the rain finally stopped. The next day, we were planning to go South, but decided to back track a couple hours and go back to Denali. It was totally worth it since we got to see the top of Mt McKinley (also known as Mt Denali). I was so excited to get those amazing captures. McKinley is the 3rd tallest mountain in the world and the tallest in North America. It was breath taking.

The southern part of Alaska, is more how I envision Alaska. The beautiful glaciers, ocean wildlife, and of course more mountains. We were so blessed to see some families of Orca's, several Humpback Whales, Sea Lions, Seals, Penguins, and much more. It was an amazing experience. My Alaska Gallery shows some of those wonderful memories. Check back often, because I'm still adding photos to that gallery. I'm so thankful that I got that opportunity! You never know what's going to come your way. If you ever get the chance to visit Alaska, I highly recommend going.
