I really like the way this painting is taking on a life of its own (already!), and I'm excited by the tapestry that is beginning to form beneath my brushes. I realized that I haven't yet explained to you the unusual name for this diptych: I'm reflecting on that which is mysterious, comprised of the unknown, unwanted, unexplained, uninvited, unidentified--you get the picture. These mysteries have expressed themselves to me in abstract form, and in the second layer of paint, I used ancient and primitive symbols borrowed from the Inca, the Aboriginal people, the American Indian, the Celtic, etc., to suggest the ancient response of mankind to that which is just beyond the firelight, in the tree line at night, watching. . .
