Welcome all to my first ever blog post. I've delayed long enough getting this started.

First and foremost, thank you for following me and my art endeavours. I'm quite humbled that my work is so appreciated.

I am fully self taught (autodidactic) (starting probably around 2001) using the GNU Image Manipulation Program (The GIMP) and have, over the years, personalized it with a number of free Photoshop plugins as well as additional Gimp plugins as well in order to take me to the next level.

Today, when someone asks me how long it takes me to do a particular image, I usually say "about 14 years." (I started manipulating photos in '01 and next year I'll be saying it took me "15 years") It may have only taken 30-90 minutes or more to physically create but, I didn't learn how to do what I did overnight. Someone just starting digital manipulation will likely not be able to do what I did in the same span of time I did it in. It took years to acquire the knowledge of what works, what doesn't, what tool does what task, etc, That isn't knocking the beginning artist. In fact, that beginner may, in fact, eclipse me in what he/she can do with the Gimp in far less time than I took to get where I am today. And that is something I encourage people to strive for. I don't consider it competition. I consider it an enhancing of the art world. The more, the merrier.

The saying "Art is in the eye of the beholder," is very true. I know what I like when it comes to art and I also know what I don't like. But what I may feel is a piece of trash may be the next Mona Lisa to someone else. And visa versa, what I may feel is a masterpiece, someone else may consider it worthy only of the landfill, if that. And that is fine with me. I have had people walk by my booth at artwalks in Pioneer Square's Occidental Park and "OOH" and "AHH" over my work while someone else my walk past and either turn their nose up at it because it is **GASP!!** "Digital Art!!" or because "It's not real!!" or some other reason, real or imagined. If they don't like my work, I just smile and thank them for viewing my artwork. You see, if everybody "LOVED" everybody else's artwork, I feel we would be living in such a "vanilla" world. There would be no innovation or desire to do something different because whatever you did, be it creative or not, would be loved by one and all. I will still make mention of what artwork I love and what artwork don't but I will always couch said rave or rant with "It's all in the eye of the beholder." And sometimes, after hearing someone rave about a piece I've outwardly criticized, I can sometime come around to seeing said piece from a different perspective and actually come to love it myself. As I said, it's all in the eye of the beholder.

The artwork I posted here, Abstract Cubed 317, is part of a large body of work within my Cubed Series Gallery that starts with an image of graffiti, tire tread marking, errant paint drippings, scratches, shadows, or what have you. All involve multiple layers and a variety of techniques. This image is available in prints from 8" x 6" all the way to 60" x 45". Note cards metal prints, acrylic prints, tee shirts, I Phone covers, etc. are also available on my website tim-allen.pixels.com and everything comes with a 30-day money back guarantee.

That's all for today. I feel the urge to create some more.

Again, thank you all for your interest in my work. I feel quite blessed to have this gift of artistic ability and I hope you enjoy this amazing journey I am on as much as I do.

Later,
Tim
