Hello I'm Talvi Winter otherwise known as ~The Gnostic Artist~

I am sitting under a starry sky outside pondering the vault of heaven and this is my first blog. I have been researching ancient texts and artifacts for over twenty years and I paint the teachings or lost teachings that I have discovered to help keep them alive in the modern era through contemporary art. To keep a lamp of hope burning in the labyrinth of life. I paint the dots. My paintings are encoded works, they contain lost textual passages from ancient texts on the surface and these in themselves contain a deep mystery but each painting is also encoded on a deeper level through the layers of paint and in other ways. I don't mind if anyone ever works them out but hope that one day, if someone does decode them, even if it is just one person, whatever the era , whatever the time, that the person knows immediately that someone like them walked the path of gnosis before them and through the art is reaching out a hand across time to say..this way.

There is a reason that this deep knowledge or divine knowledge should be guarded. It is not something especially for elite people or poor people it is something that every human being on earth has to walk a path to reveal. My greatest hero Apollonius of Tyana knew how to keep silent about sacred things and taught knowledge to better his human fellow. I too like to share knowledge but the knowledge at the center of the labyrinth is divine and this knowledge is not told, it is revealed. Instead I paint it because I believe beauty speaks directly to the light dweller inside of us all.

A few extra things about me. I love ancient things, mythology, knowledge, unexplained things, the bons hommes or Cathars, chivalry, troubadours, minstrels and stars but most of all I love lost knowledge and I have spent a lifetime searching for it.

I love good people with clean hearts and everything beautiful. I love strength and hope and I have a great empathy for those who seek for the bigger answers to all things. Ignorance annoys me. I'm a bit of a hermit by nature I prefer manuscripts to people. I mistrust the human race and at the same time have great sorrow for man kinds mortal condition.

My favorite painting is Poussin's second version of Et in Arcadia ego. He too was a researcher. I don't like long discussions on spirituality. I prefer to write read or paint. I'm a silent thinker.

Someone once told me when I was little that every time I read a book, I became a bit smarter, a bit wiser, I have that person to thank for me turning out to be an obsessed knowledge seeker and for my passion of going back to the very beginnings of the oldest stories. When I find a story I will spend years tracing it back to it's oldest origins and I never like to rely on anyone else's research.

I strongly believe that people who are focused on exposing the baddies in this life are being distracted and that the only thing that matters here in this place is that a person works on mastering themselves, no matter what a person goes through, the goal is to obtain a shield when that shield has been attained, then the path begins. And that is all I am going to write about myself. If you want to know more you can read my artist bio at gnosticart.com

So what am I going to write about? Well I'm not going to blog about art techniques or how to make it as an artist online or anything like that. Instead I'm going to blog about what I like to know about and what I like to know about is the strange, the unknown, the hidden.

I'm going to take you on a journey in this blog with me into my world of the strange and ancient and each week I'm going to bring you a strange true story to mull over that has to do with art or ancient art. I'm going to tell you about something and not give any opinions on it. My role in this blog will just be to put the strange thing on the table for you to examine, just like a museum curator, so to speak. I'm also going to post one weird fact about artists from past to present under each story that you may not have known about just for fun. So now that the introduction is over let's dive in to the weird, wonderful and extraordinary world of ancient things. See second post for first story and weird fact.. incoming. Yakini Yakini and may the light of lights guide us all.
