How about the paintings that don't sell? You spend a year working to produce 10 paintings and let's say you manage to sell 3 or 4 of them if you are really lucky, what about the remaining 6 or 7 that represent months of work that you have not been paid for?

Thank you! Good article. Another Tip: An artist friend on this website told me she had her paintings appraised by an art dealer, and his advice was for the point of sale, always price your paintings 30% lower than the appraisal, it will surely sell! Leah Delano

Thank you for this article, Mr. Davey. I found it very useful. One thing I would add is in the beginning it's important to listen to other people's advice, especially regarding pricing, because other people have a more realistic view of what your art is worth than you do. I think in the beginning we are inclined to under value our work simply because we are "new".
