The Paradox

“Confine yourself to the present” – Marcus Aurelius

“Just as corn cannot mature unless it is covered for months by its husk, we need to incubate who we are within layers of who we might yet become.” – Mark Nepo

“In every human being is that limitless reservoir of power which can overcome any problem in the world.” – Dr. Joseph Murphy

Life is full of paradoxes.

I recently created a vision board. This vision board has a picture of myself in the middle and is surrounded by all of the things I want to do, places I want to go and material things I want to manifest in the coming months and years. I placed my vision board in a place in my home close to where I do most of my work for my photography business so that I could look at it for ongoing inspiration as I go about my day. It helps me to retain my focus about where I’m going with my life.

Some days I look at it longingly and wonder if, in fact, I will ever achieve the things that are represented on that board. Of course, the places I go, the things I do and what I own are only external representations of the changes that are happening at the soul level of life. I know that what I think about and plan for today will become my reality at some point in the future. Some things truly need to incubate while being covered by the dream, but sometimes it’s hard to wait. So how do I get from where I am to where I want to be without sacrificing my joy in the present moment?
This may not seem like the biggest problem in the world compared to war, poverty and world hunger, but it is a problem that we all struggle with. Living in the present moment is the fastest way to immediate happiness, but creating an internal space for new possibilities is a requisite for making the leap from where I am to where I’m going. Being able to hold that paradox is the key to happiness and success. I’m a strong believer in meditation and visualization and doing whatever I can to bring my inner vision out into the world in a physical sense.

Finding quiet time every morning to be thankful for what I currently am and preparing for what I am becoming is probably the most important aspect of my day. In gratitude, I place my dreams on the altar of possibility and then walk with confidence into my day knowing that my present is a perfect out-picturing of my own inner reality.

Thanks for reading Dori! It's always good to get some feedback and to learn about what others are doing to make their dreams come true.

Thanks for mentioning your blog, Debby. I really like the vision board idea. I have an altered book that I have put together and keep developing - it's an old copy of Stevenson's Treasure Island. It holds my treasures: triumphs, hopes, things I aspire to. A thing I particularly like about these tools is that they help us also to honor what we're letting go of as the new comes to us. Many blessings. I enjoyed the reading.
