The Light of Hope and Cheer : Building Relationships in 2015

In celebrating Yule 2014, while welcoming New Year 2015, GLOREHE reflects on the power of fireworks performance by it's hometown -- Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. It is the 20th year of Alexandria's "First Night." Beneath center stage is relationship building, at work in simple glory. The New Years Eve fireworks shine upon a local and global community of home owners, residents, tourists, businesses, artists and artisan, unified by art, history, economy, politics, tourism, to make the celebration flourish. In our Thanksgiving 2014 Issue, GLOREHE spotlights on community building by thanking five representative sectors: The City Government, The Global World, The Local Business Owners, The Gurus and Interns, The Thought Leaders and the Taste Makers. They create synergy, fueling productive growth. These groups are not exclusive to Alexandria. They are found in other cities, in other worlds. The point is that the world that celebrates the new years is local, but is global as well.

"First Night Alexandria" ( http://www.firstnightalexandria.org/) is a new year celebration, made by the performing arts, restaurants, retail stores, hotels, museums and public buildings. One night, every year since 1994, Old Town magically transform into performance venues showcasing incredible local and regional talent. They are jazz musicians, clowns, face painters and magicians, world-class Scottish fiddler, a Grammy-nominated rock and roll guitarist, classical cellists and other virtuosos. The culmination : fireworks on the water, at ground zero, King Street.
By 12 midnight, the revelers -- multitudes of them -- are assembled by the waterfront, bundled, oblivious of the cold, their eyes affixed to the skies of cascading, bursting, energizing light. In that moment of firework performance, a whole town, and its guests are transfixed, cheering, hopeful, united under the light of hope and cheer for a new day. They are the picture of a community in a global world, headed to a new day in 2015. Welcome 2015.
