The Accidental Photographer

As I said on my bio I became a photographer by accident. I have no art or photography background and I am still unsure as to what if any photographic style I have. I take pictures of almost anything but I prefer people doing ordinary things. I am at a bit of a loss as to where to go next with my photography, I enjoy it very much but my disability limits me in some respects. People tend to move away from a person in a wheelchair, I don't know if they are afraid of hurting me or getting a foot rolled over but it makes getting close for street photography difficult.
All of the YouTube videos and books say to get close to put yourself in the moment, it is hard to do that but I keep trying. I could just take pictures of birds or something but that's not really what I enjoy, I want something raw, something real. It is a work in progress I refuse to give up .

We went shooting the other evening, I was happy to get the photos I got. I don't do a lot of post processing. I convert to B&W, I crop and add or subtract a stop or two. I don't take people out or move a tree to make the picture work. My work is far from perfect, my composition may suck and my choice of subjects may be questionable, I will admit to all those things, but I try to post what I saw through my lens as faithful as I can make it.

I still haven't found my niche yet. I found some great shots at market common street shooting the other day. I really enjoy pretty flowers in macro. I don't have a macro lens yet but I am saving for one. I did get a new computer for my photo editing , even though I don't do much . Its hard to put in words I know what I want my pictures to say, I refuse to give up,

8/5/2015 FOUND MY NICHE

We went to Wilmington N.C. last week for a day trip to promote Marks art and take some photos. I used the Canon Rebel with Kentmere100 film I developed the roll myself, my first try at home developing. I got images on the film , and my converter will be here today so I can scan and post or print them. I am not a film snob I just really enjoyed the process of having to see, compose, capture and then be responsible for developing the film. If I had mixed the chemicals wrong or got the timing wrong the film would have been ruined.
It is easy to take a digital photo, post processing is an art unto it self and the people who use the editing software can do things I cannot. I have no problem with this , its just not for me. I only shoot in B&W and now that I can develop and scan my own negatives I There was something very rewarding about having done the developing and being the only one to blame if I screwed it up. There is no reset button with film.
I got some photos and had a fantastic lunch, Mark hung some art work at the Juggling Gypsy, we plan to go back soon.
