Sunset Blue Tree

It's been a couple of days since I last wrote, but I can officially say that I conquered my "painters block". For whatever reason I was just having a heck of a time coming up with something that I really wanted to paint, and that I could also do. I started and stopped, then started over AGAIN about three different times, but I think the wait and trouble was worth it! Iit certainly wasn't a smooth road to get there though. I Started with an orange background and then decided where I wanted to put the yellow accents. Everything was going well, at first. The blending was going good and it was awesome! Then I got to the left side of the yellow accents and it just wouldn't blend the way the right side did! I worked on it for a bit and decided I was good with how it was. I took a little break and then started to lay down the background trees. This was going really well! I was diggin' how all of them were turning out. I did a mix of light grey and dark grey for the skinnier trees and filled in the bigger ones with a dark grey. I'm looking at the canvas now. Ugh! I Hate the blending on the yellow background now, and it's all that I can see! At first I was pretty irritated, so decided to sleep on it and see what I felt like in the morning. Big surprise, I still didn't like it. I sat there for awhile, staring at it to see how I could fix it without ruining the trees I had just finished. I finally came to the conclusion that the trees would just have to be repainted in the areas that needed tweaking, and that was that. I blended and blended, and blended some more, until I knew I was completely happy with the yellow and orange, sunset background. It took me a bit, but is was definitely worth it. It's one of the main focal points of the painting, and obviously you want those to look good. I finally got to move on to fixing the painted over background trees and got started on the main Blue Tree. I knew I didn't want it to be perfectly centered, so I opted for slightly to the left. I love painting the trunk and branches of trees. I feel like that's what sets the attitude for the tree, and I like to get creative with the direction the branches go. I got going on filling in of the tree with my go to black and blue, with some highlights of lighter blue. Once that was done I went back to the larger background trees and gave them a little more texture. And..... ta da! Done! I always enjoy seeing the paintings the next morning once the paint is dry. It seems like it always has more depth to it. Maybe that's just me, who knows. I am pretty excited with how it turned out. It also has more color than the last couple of landscapes I've done, which is a nice change of pace for me, and hopefully for you too. Hope you enjoy it.
