Spring in southern OR

We've been relishing springlike weather here in southern OR for over a month now, which means the BIG garden clean-up is well underway a little early this year. Unfortunately, a lot of my trusty & usually hardy perennials did not make it through a couple of pretty intense winter storms...and there is much more to do than usual. It can be overwhelming!

Happily, our two almond trees are still full of pink & white flowers...and bees, my one remaining evergreen Clematis vine is continuing to delight our senses with it's lovely blossoms & fragrant perfume and the mounds of heather decorating the garden walk here & there are still very much alive in deep pink. Since I am on the mend from a recent back injury, I must remember to be extra careful not to overdo, which, as you gardeners know, is not easy. But, I must pace myself...or else!

Like I said, some of my treasured vines did not make the cut after so many years of delighting me & our fence-line, while offering their delicious flowering aromas and much-needed privacy I crave. We are in the process of planting new plants & trees, then, come the myriad 6-pacs of starts to add, baskets of annuals to fill my many stone planters & stands, an array of veggies to begin thinking about, fountains to fill and SO much more.

How about you...how does your garden grow so far this year...or does it?

Ashland, OR

70 degrees & partly sunny today! Off for a walk in our lovely park downtown with my husband, camera in hand, of course. Speaking of, check out my 'A Walk in the Park' top of page 3 in my gallery to see a shot of Lithia Park, designed, in part, by the architect of SF's infamous Golden Gate Park. Enjoy! I hope you're day is going well.
