I've taken a few business trips to Washington DC, and managed to take some time in the evenings to head to the National Mall and get some shots. I was set up and waiting to take a series of shots of the White House during the famed "Blue Hour," after the sun has set, and the sky turns a gorgeous deep blue.
I was up against the fence that separates the common man from the president's residence - I had picked a place as far away from the bulk of the crowd. Nevertheless, a policeman informed me that my tripod could not extend out onto the sidewalk out of concern for safety. Fine. I brought the leg in as much as possible to minimize any protrusion onto the sidewalk. Fixed, right? Nope. Another police officer barked at me because my tripod was inside the fence, despite the fact that it wasn't. Well, not much anyway. Anyway, I convinced him there wasn't really a problem.
Then I managed to take series of almost-in-focus images. Sigh. At least I got some good shots of the Washington Monument later.
