Spare Moments 2 - Collaborative photography

A few years ago I went for a boys weekend away to Apollo Bay Music Festival. Its a beautiful part of Australia and driving along that southern coastline is a dream come true for photographers. Rugged coastlines, incredible forests, unshaven faces, turtleneck sweaters and quaint towns. But I digress.

One of the groups playing at the festival was Spyndrift, an exciting mix of Gypsy, Moulin Rouge, bawdy humour, Reggae, Rock and Eastern European music. What stood out most for me was the amazing costumes. They were so much fun to watch. Later on I found them on Facebook (as can you) and noticed a few good images there however they were not matching up to the attitude of the band themselves.

Now I have no idea if there is a term for this (there should be) but I began playing around with these images doing my own edits on the iPad and sending these variations to them. It proves to me that photography should not be too well defined and sometimes ownership does get blurred. I have loved seeing iPhoneographers working on images collaboratively. It turns an inherently solo activity into a shared experience. As fun as this was to work within those limitations, I still had my own ideas and wanted to see them on screen. Now I called this Spare Moments for a good reason, I don’t have many of them! It has taken me three years to find the time to head out country on a nearly four hour drive to Colac and do what was to be my first photo shoot with something other than bugs. But more about that another time. Im heading up there again really soon to get more shots of the whole band.

In the meantime you can check the shots over at Flick so click below button.
