I make itty bitty versions so if on the rare chance somebody did try to take my work, they'd only be able to have perhaps an avatar. Fan art almost has its own set of rules. Some explicitly say "don't draw our characters", some don't mind so long as you don't make money off your work or become more popular than them since fan work is an expression of affection toward a franchise and often draws in new customers.

I am constantly amazed when I find derivatives of photographs being passed off as paintings on sites such as FAA and other POD sites. It would appear that those "painters" are completely unaware that they MUST have the written permission of the original photographer before they can sell the derivatives for a commercial gain. Giving attribution is not enough and is rare in any event. Most are not actual paintings but are photographs upon which filters are being used for a painterly effect.

My stolen painting incidences have dropped by half since I have added the following - which may not be legal, but it does discourage the passing thief. Here it is: " Name of Painting " is the creative property of Boothill Studios and the artist ( name ). It is protected in copyright and may not be used in whole or in part, nor reproduced in any manner, without the express permission of Boothill Studios and the ( name ).
