It has been nearly 10 years since Simon Combes met his demise at the horns of a Cape buffalo near his home in Kenya. The pain of this news is still fresh, however. In 2004, I went on my first African art safari led by Simon with several artist friends. I thought I'd never be able to do this due to my MS, but once I learned the tents had en-suite bathrooms, I was good to go. It was the time of my life and I have no regrets. I read all Simon's books and wanted to meet him. He was larger than life, full of joy whenever we saw wildlife, with a zany sense of humour, not to mention his artistic know-how and success. When life tells you really must do something, do it. You likely will not get another chance.
