I was really excited when Backpacker Magazine contacted me about the use of one of my images from the Roan Highlands. The image, captured from Bear Gap on Grassy Ridge, was the result of hiking the Appalachian Trail over a series of beautiful Appalachian balds and camping high atop the range while the annual wild Catawba Rhododendron bloom was occurring. The image was used to represent the beauty found along the Appalachian Trail, and to promote long-distance hiking in general. What was really neat too, was that the image followed a larger spread by Marc Adamus within the same section of the periodical, who happens to be an extremely respected landscape photographer in the industry today for those who are unaware.
