PUBLISHED July 2014 Outdoor Photographer Magazine

For the month of July my photograph was featured as the Motivation Assignment winner, a periodic contest that occurs on Outdoor Photographer Magazine's website. The photograph was taken in the Roan Highlands of the Southern Appalachian Mountains, accessed by walking a spur trail off the Appalachian National Scenic Trail along the borders of Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina. Each year this area erupts with wild Catawba Rhododendron and the high altitude (for the east coast) can provide for some really dynamic accompanying conditions. On this particular morning, my father and his German Shepherd were along while we witnessed high fog transitioning into a moving form that hugged and enveloped the ridge line while a beautiful blue sky opened above painting the blooms with morning light. These are the moments that provide enough motivation for years of return trips! And this was my first opportunity as a full-time photographer to be published in a photography-specific publication.
