Painting Time - in Progress

When painting is going well, it's like a party on your own. I play all the music I want to and act completely silly. This latest one is of giraffes in the Masai Mara from my last art safari with John Banovich and other artists; another of the highest points of my life. I spend a lot of time on the drawing, since with animals, there is no room for error. I then lay in the patterns of the design with very watery acrylic paint. Finishing the painting is usually in oils to get the richer colours and textures, although I sometimes finish in acrylics. The landscape part is often the fun part, allowing me to be looser with lines, details and colours. I used to do landscapes for many years & always hoped to do wildlife. For this, you must have the experience of viewing the animals, and the reference of sketches, small paintings and photos. Anyway, it may be strange, but that's how I party. I often wonder what it would look like with several artists being zany while working on their art. Art workshops have been an incredible high because of working with people who have the same passions. Most of the time, it is a pretty solitary experience.
