Painting Challenge Twentythree, four and five

Raj and I went to a friend’s house for lunch recently. We had bumped into each other at the grocery store and she said to me, “I went to your blog to see your paintings.” When I heard this, I nearly fell over. How kind of her to take notice of something that is dear to me; that she actually mention it speaks volumes. Feedback of the positive kind when one is learning something sometimes takes its time to show up. And then the encouragement is the real jewel. “You really ought to keep painting...” Oh really? My enthusiasm has waned a bit. I am a self-driven person usually, but recently I fell into some kind of judgement about what I was doing. People, it only takes one negative thought to quash inspiration. Be careful please. And then she said, “I’ve been painting for 30 years. Just forget about technique.” Hmm. Ok. I’ll try that on my next set of paintings—3 panels. I’m still working on it. It’s called “Wallpaper Wallflowers.” I didn’t use any of the surface treatments that I learned in June. I don’t feel very loose, and I’m noticing that these treatments I could “hide behind” –as a security blanket instead of developing skill. After all, painting the first 100 is for skill development. I’m finishing up paintings 23, 24, 25 sometime this week.
