More restoration progress

The restoration project for First Presbyterian Church Edmonton is progressing really well, over the last month we completed fabrication on one of the large lights and cemented it. This process waterproofs and strengthens by brushing a specialized “cement” (an oil based putty) into the spaces between the flanges of the leads and the glass. Once the excess has been removed from the edges of the leads and cleaned from the surface of the glass, the window is left to cure for a few days.

We also completed the cutlines (structural drawings) for the other two large centre lights and approximately half of the traceries. We cut new glass to replace diamonds and border pieces which are too damaged to use; pieces with a clean single break are leaded with a thin lead to maintain as much of the original glass as possible.

Fabrication continues on one of the other large lights and the traceries; as this is such a large project we will keep going like this for quite some time!
