Monotype Mistake And Lucky Save

Continuing to experiment with monotype printing. Really getting into painting the ink directly onto the plate. Using different brushes leave very different stroke marks in the final transfer.

Process- I typically do a base sketch, scan it, flip the image horizontally and then print out the sketch in it's mirror image. This I then put under the acrylic plate and paint away. So, with latest print, I made the near fatal mistake of not flipping the sketch. Prior to printing I held the plate up to the light to see how it looked and said to myself- Jimmy Page didn't play the guitar left handed. What to do so as not to have wasted the better part of 2 hours of painting. I put to pieces of paper to soak; heavier watercolor paper and some unbleached mulberry paper. My idea was that I would pull an initial print onto the heavier watercolor paper, then use the watercolor print as the plate for the mulberry paper. It worked. There was more than enough ink transferred to the watercolor paper to use it in turn as a plate. The final, correctly oriented image on the mulberry paper was actually nicer than the first print. Care to share any of your saves? Would love to hear your comments.
