MixMaster

I've been working on a painting for the last few days and it is almost done. I have been really excited about it, but it also makes me just a bit nervous. This painting came to me the other day when I was sitting on the sofa, watching TV and fooling around on the computer. It was influenced by a few different things, and it is also similar to one of my old paintings.
I used lots of bright colors and there are a few elements that come together for this one. There are flowers, a dragonfly, grass, and a full moon. I picked a dark color for the sky, but I used lighter colors throughout. This presented a bit of a challenge for me.
I was nervous about getting the color combo for this one just right. I need to strike a balance between my usual bright, colorful style and the dark night represented by the moon. I suppose it doesn't totally matter. This painting is a little bit abstract and a little bit surrealist. It is not proportionate and is meant to be more about expression. So as far as color selection goes, I think I can't loose. However, I am once again mixing four or five colors of paint to find just the right shade. Today I got down to having just the moon and the dragonfly to paint. I really felt that this was the make-or-break point for the whole painting. I agonized over color choice and slaved away mixing up the right colors.
I am happy with what I came up with. It sits beside me right now, approximately 98% done. I will most likely debut the finished piece this evening.
I racked my brain over this one and drove myself nuts. This gives me hope that this painting will be great. I've noticed that the ones that make you work the hardest can often be the ones that are the most rewarding.
