Minor Adjustments

At times things don't go just as expected. You know what I mean. "The best laid plans of mice and men...etc", referring to a Scottish poem by Robert Burns. My original painting "Gallo y Toro" is a good example of this principle. In the midst of trying to prepare a painting for a prestigious exhibition in Corpus Christi, Texas, a strange malady struck me down and I was bedridden for two months.

How was "Gallo y Toro" ever going to be completed? Well, sometimes you have to improvise. Although the pain was extreme, 85% of the painting was done while lying on the floor and rolling on my side to complete a few strokes at a time until the agony was to much.

But this is not a tale of overcoming pain but of improvisation. Do what is necessary to complete the task at hand. No matter how difficult it may seem to be, if you have the will, there is a way.

Never let anything get in your way to complete your ideas. Sometimes and I might add, many times the improvisation is better than the original strategy. Focus on the "doing of it", not incontrovertibly the perfection of execution. Getting too involved in manifesting a flawless technique can surely get in the way of creativity and finale outcome.

Never worry anything can be adjusted. Loosen up and let the ideas flow. You'll be thrilled that you did.
