Life Without Art....

When I was in high school I danced at least ten to twelve hours a week. I was a total theater geek, and I thought that when I got out of school I would pursue musical theater. I felt amazing when I was dancing, and I can honestly say that for me high school was the happiest four years of my life so far.
Currently I have not danced in months, and I do not know when I will get the opportunity to dance again. Do I miss it? Heck yeah! Why did I quit dancing? I don't know exactly.
I made an attempt at a dance career after graduation. But it was a pretty lame attempt. Maybe I was lazy, maybe I was unprepared for the realities of the professional dance world. Maybe it's because I cannot sing. Doesn't matter.
I always think back to the numerous times when various relatives would ask me if I was still dancing. They'd want to know "why haven't you outgrown it yet" or "don't you think that's for little girls". Maybe that played a role in my eventually stopping. I know that when I was dancing I was happier. I was healthier. My life was just all-around better. Every day I think about getting back to it, but I never do.
The point I am trying to make is that art is important. Some people may not see its value, but it does matter. People who have artistic ability are uniquely blessed. Art makes the world happier and prettier. It is an essential aspect of the personalities of those who have the skill to create it. It cannot and should not be dismissed.
My message to all artists out there is to keep doing what you love. Ignore those who doubt you. If you have the passion and the skill, no matter what type of art, just keep going with it. After all, what is life without art?

Life without art? Dismal! Thank you for your inspirational post. It is so important for us to do what feeds our soul, and equally important to ignore other people's perception or assessment of what we do as artists. Art is just as important as solving math equations. I do hope that you get back to dancing in 2015!
