Learning To Sell Art Online

I have always looked for different ways to sell my art. With the convenience of the internet, reaching out to thousands of buyers and art collectors should be easy. For those of us that are a bit challenged when it comes to technology it’s easier to find the websites that offer free memberships. There is an abundance of information on the internet that can help folks learn to sell art online.

I’ve learned that just joining an artist website and setting up your own website is not enough. You need to attract people to your site by using specific keywords and phrases. Let’s face it, your friends and family can get to your site by entering your name in the search box and clicking on your website. However, folks who don’t know you, who may be interested in what you are selling, will need some other encouragement to drive them to your site.

Many visitors will land on your website by accident when they are searching for something else. Typically these visitors will leave your site before they have a chance to look around at your artwork. Joining a group art website can help you sell your work only if you use the Internet marketing tools available.

The idea is to target a specific audience and turn visitors into customers. You have to make your site work for you. You need to use your website in conjunction with other marketing techniques. These techniques include social networks, participating in events that allow you to show and sell your work, entering shows, and networking with the art community in your area.

In addition to these marketing techniques there are a number of ways to improve your profile online. Begin by using the artist website that offers a free personal website that uses domains like www.yourname.com, www.yournameartist.com, and www.yourname.artist.com. Once you have secured the domain name make the site exclusively about your art.

Personalize your site by creating an actual place. Give it atmosphere and a frame of mind unique to your personality. When you write about your art and yourself make sure it is in the first person. You want to sell to the pros, but keep in mind that the reality created for the average audience will, in the end, sell your art.

Search engines cannot find websites that do not have text. Start a blog and write about the reasons you create art and why you are an artist. Explain how you use your talent to express who you are. You want folks who visit your website to get the feeling they know you. Followers begin to connect the person you are with your art. People who build a relationship with you will make a purchase more often than those who do not make a personal connection.

Write often about why folks buy art. Discuss why people like it and what owning art does for them. Many folks feel that art enriches their lives. Write articles that tell folks about your process. For example, what techniques you like to use, medium preferences, how long a painting take you to complete, and how you felt about the piece during its creation.

When you write assume folks who visit the website know very little, if anything, about art and even less about you. Make sure your language is simple and easy for anyone to understand. Begin with a step by step explanation of what you do. It is important that folks understand what they are seeing. Those who know you or art will go straight to the sections that are appropriate. People who want to learn more about you and your artwork will take the time to make contact with you. These are also the folks that become followers, return to your site consistently, and share with their friends and family.
