Keeping Christmas Local

Christmas is a time for giving, that's agreed and of course it's also a time for receiving. There's nothing nicer than getting something you know someone has made with their own fair hands. Photography is no different. It's not just a case of point and click. I for one spend many hours scouring the countryside or city with my camera trying to capture the perfect scene and I know other photographers who do just the same. Then comes all the hours selecting, editing and quite often in my case, using digital software to turn that photograph into an interesting and eye catching piece of art.

I mount a number of my photographs on to wood, to offer an alternative to the usual methods of display. It works well and customers love the fact that the don't always have to find available space on a wall, they can stand the block on a shelf, window sill or mantel piece.

I varnish the wood to give a more durable finish. The finished product is fun to create and gives a truly local craft to those who want something different.

Shopping local puts money back into the local economy and helps small businesses thrive and grow. Let's face it, all the massive stores just offer much the same, it's much more fun to buy items created with personal love and inspiration.

Check out your local high street and seek out the independent stores, market traders and craft fairs. Enjoy the personalized service you will receive. Make new friends! It's a much more pleasurable way of shopping than standing in queues waiting to be served by impersonal staff. Far less stressful too.
