Inktense Pencils - An Overview

Derwent Inktense Pencils are one of the most joyful types of paint! The colors are filled with bright pigment, they become permenant, and can be used on fabric too! They come in a very transportable box, can easily travel with you, and only require a couple of brushes, water and paper towels -- basically, that is.
You're actually painting with ink, but it doesn’t come in a bottle! That in itself is a wonderful thing! To paint on fabric, all you need to do is use a fabric painting medium - Delta Ceramcoat has a good one that I use all the time.

To paint on fabric: Begin by Covering a small area, just one small section like a leaf, twig, shape, with the fabric medium. Don’t use a thick coat, just make sure all of the small section is covered right to the edge. While it’s still wet, add color with the brush. Begin adding color in the darkest part of that section first. Pull the color toward the light area. While the fabric medium is wet, blend the color out into the section, leaving the lightest area as a highlight. The whole section should have smooth transitions from dark to light. After the section is dry, you can add more layers to deepen shaded areas, using the same method of adding fabric medium and paint to the darkest areas. The Inktense Ink, will become a part of the fabric as the fabric medium helps it to soak right into the fibers. To make sure it won’t fade with washing, place a paper towel over the painting when it’s completely dry and heat set with your iron on medium temp.
