One of my first exposures to art cinema and foreign film long ago was the 1975 movie directed by Peter Weir, “Picnic at Hanging Rock”….like books, film has always had a big influence for me and this particular movie set an atmosphere that I’m sure has leaked into some of my Fado Fables' images. The Pan Pipes selection and mystical qualities were mesmerizing and the entire setting took on an entity of its own. This sketchbook entry started with that feeling….other haunting images in this realm that remain stuck in my memory passages include the Cottingley Fairies by the young English girls that attempted to pass on the 1917 photographic hoax that fairies actually lived on their estate. Of course, my sketchbooks always wander on to other things after the initial impulse and never really turn out the way I originally planned....
