The juried 2015 Portland Rose Festival Art Show, an officially sanctioned event of the annual Portland Rose Festival, selects “In Full Bloom” by Anna Porter as Best in Show.

Anna Porter (www.annaporterartist.com), a Pacific Northwest fine artist living in Lake Oswego, Oregon uses watercolor, mixed media, and digital photography to capture intimate details in nature. An active member of Oregon Society of Artists, her florals, landscapes, abstract paintings and digital photographs have been shown in galleries in Oregon, Idaho and online.

Anna Porter’s “In Full Bloom” is a stunning close-up mixed media painting of a beautiful backlighted rose rendered in watercolor and Golden Fluid Acrylic on Arches 140 lb. hot press paper. The Portland Rose Festival Art Show is held annually at Oregon Society of Artists (http://oregonsocietyofartists.com), 2185 SW Park Place, Portland, OR 97205. The 2015 exhibit will be on display from June 7, 2015 to July 10, 2015. The Gallery is open Monday to Saturday 1:00PM to 4:00PM (closed Sundays and holidays).

ABOUT THE 2015 PORTLAND ROSE FESTIVAL ART SHOW

The annual juried Portland Rose Festival Art Show is open to the public, and each year fine artists can submit up to two paintings to be considered for entry. For 2015, the entries included paintings of Roses, Portland Scenes and Rose Festival Scenes, created around a central theme of “Bloomin’ Good Time”. The juror for the 2015 Portland Rose Festival Art Show was renowned Pacific Northwest sculptor and painter Geoffrey McCormack, who selected Anna Porter’s “In Full Bloom” as Best in Show from a field of 127 entries.

Ribbons and prizes were awarded at the Opening Reception held at Oregon Society of Artists on June 7, 2015 to twelve artists, with paintings divided into two categories: Roses and Other, plus an overall Best in Show Award, won by Anna Porter, and a People’s Choice Award, won by Pink Widdows. Cash prizes, OSA caps and aprons were given by Oregon Society of Artists to winning artists, as well as prizes of art supplies and coupons that were donated by local art supply stores and businesses supporting the arts in Portland, Oregon.

ABOUT ANNA PORTER, FINE ARTIST

Artist Statement:

"I have heard it said that art is not something that you do, it is who you are. I believe that creativity is one of the essential characteristics that defines us as human beings. I began studying art later in life. I learned to paint in Art Therapy at the age of 37. Since then I have never stopped painting.

My first love was watercolor and it remains my favorite medium. I love surprises! I am a purist at heart, preferring a bright palette and transparent layers of vivid color. An avid photographer, I carry my digital camera everywhere. I am happiest when I am painting outside in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, at one with nature.

My paintings and photography reflect my love of color and the intimate details in nature. Currently I am experimenting with mixed media, combining watercolor with other mediums to create bold, large-scale, vibrant paintings." — Anna Porter, Fine Artist

ABOUT “IN FULL BLOOM” BY ANNA PORTER

Anna Porter’s painting, “In Full Bloom”, a close-up study of a beautiful backlighted rose, is both abstract and realistic at the same time. The artist painted it in layers of transparent watercolor, then added multiple glazes of Golden Fluid Acrylic to bring out the vibrant colors that she prefers. The painting is 28 X 28 inches (framed dimensions), float mounted on an off-white matte under UV and scratch resistant acrylic, and framed in a one inch cherry-colored solid wood frame. The Gallery at Oregon Society of Artists is located within walking distance (one mile) from the Portland International Rose Test Garden in Washington Park.
