I never remember not feeling like there is someone who doesn’t like me. You can't please everyone.
All my life there was that kid in the neighborhood, those kids in school, that one teacher or boss – who you knew no matter what you did or said that they didn’t like you. I guess it was one bad work experience that really pushed me into trying to be my own boss and do what I liked and wanted to do. I remember thinking “I got this” after starting a new job. I know I’m good at what I do. And I pick up stuff so fast. But when you don’t get complemented and the things that are brought to your attention are little details you may have missed (ie: make sure the chairs line up at the conference table) you start to say “huh? Has my life really come down to this? Are these the things I want to lose sleep over?”
Finally, I realized the most important person to like me is me. So my journey began… I know that at work my boss finally likes my work. After years of trying to please others and wanting so hard to be liked – I realized – Do what you love…
And the rest will follow.
