I play my drum for you

The drummer boy had no gift to bring the Christ child and so he gave the ability he had to play the drum. It is humbling to me to feel a kindred spirit with that little drummer boy as I sit in at my table painting, each stroke offered as a gentle prayer. Completed icons are considered to be interactive images in which the divine is present, and for me it is so, from the first stroke of the brush to the last. The softness of the brush against the gesso in itself is beautiful and is a gift. I love the process of the sketch being visible beneath the first layers of roskrish...and already God's eye's are watching you, working with you in communion. I am in timeless space, and I play my drum for you.
