Going Commissions Crazy

I’ve had lots of requests for commissioned paintings this year. I’ve finished three, one is in work, and more are in the queue. It’s nerve wracking, yet fun to do commissions because I know they end up having special meaning to the recipient as they are often given as a gift commemorating a special person or event…or both!

The painting featured here was my very first commission. I stumbled across a request on Craigslist, and went for it. I was a VERY new painter and quite nervous about taking on this commission. The painting was an anniversary gift from a husband to wife as he gets her something special and unique every year (good husband…LOL). The requirements for this piece were, “include a raven, a sunflower, and our house…otherwise, do whatever you want.” What? Well, even so, it turned out rather OK I think. In fact, the client, who I still hear from several years later, tells me this is still his wife’s favorite anniversary gift. Awww…

So, what is a commissioned painting exactly? A commissioned painting is an original that I collaborate on with the client. The client shares their idea(s) with me, sometimes reference photos, and together we create something completely unique. Commissioned paintings make awesome gifts for a birthday, anniversary, wedding, housewarming, or graduation, or ??? My most recent one is being used for a person’s integrative nutrition and health coaching small business. (Follow the included link to see all the images.)

Sometimes though, someone just wants a special piece of art for that one place in their home or office that needs a unique size, color, or style.

Paint on! In gratitude,
