Getting to Know the Photographer

I am generally not comfortable talking about myself. I would much prefer to speak of others and discuss the topics of interest currently on the minds of many. But I find it important to let others know who it is they are visiting and hopefully purchasing photographs from that they will cherish for many years to come.

The image with this blog was actually taken by my lovely wife Sheila who is an accomplished artist and writer. She is my companion on outings and she draws and works with her water colors while I am collecting photos on my Nikon camera.

It is actually our date day each week to venture out for the sole purpose of collecting imagery that stirs our souls. We enjoy the time alone together, the thoughtful reflection it brings, the relaxing, peaceful escape that it is from the everyday business of caring for many others. You see I am a pastor of a local church, a board president to a large ministry in Haiti, and a regional administrator for a network of churches called Master Builders. My wife and I stay quite busy with her business, my ministry responsibilities, being grandparents and friend and family to many others that God has placed in our lives.

Photography is so much more to me than a business or a way to earn income. That is actually a byproduct for something that works to provide me with enjoyment, escape, reflection, and opportunity to spend uninterrupted time with the love of my life.

For me, being out of service range for technology and having my wife beside me discovering the beauty of nature and seeing so many things from a completely different perspective and appreciation is one of the highlights of my week.

Looking through that tiny view finder, and then adjusting the focus of the lens and setting up so that I can capture something my eye has seen is exhilarating to me. Experimenting to see how accurately I can capture something without needing post production is the most rewarding of all. There is so much to see in this great big world of ours.

I am fortunate to live in an area of great natural beauty and wonder. It just also happens to be one of the allergy capitols of our nation as well as a result. But living in an area where four actual seasons exist in full display is like a playground to a photographer. This is why I want to showcase each season in it's full glory and splendor. Even more amazing is the fact that each season progresses and then diminishes as it melds into the next. There are variations and changes that occur even within the season itself.

This is important to me because I am finding this to be a thing of such regularity and consistency that it shouts of God's own faithfulness to me in my soul. It has become a loud voice of steadiness, reason and reliability with regard to who God is in my own personal life. I have tasted and I've seen that He is good and He is faithful.

So as you can see photography transcends a hobby, an income potential, or a fixation, it is a gracious gift of enjoyment that my Father in heaven has allowed me to discover. Thankfully my wife shares my love for escaping and relaxing in this way and it is such a blessing.

I hope the as you visit my webpage and browse the image library you will have even a slight sense of escape yourself. I hope you will find yourself drifting off to the place in the photo and noticing some of the many things that drew my own eye and heart to the image represented. Perhaps what you see can bring a little peace, a little joy and some idea of opportunity as you spend time reviewing.

Thanks for stopping by and taking time to read and to look.

I trust it has been well worth the moment it took to do so and I hope to have come and visit again soon.

Sincerely,

Tim Atchley
