Fresh Eyes

Greetings,

Here is a snapshot (glare and all) of '' Beauty Adorns Virtue- Freedom'' 24x14 oil on wood panel. I ''think'' its done But its not signed. Why not?

Ever hear the expression ''he has a face only a mother can love''? It applies to painting. I'll now share with you how so.

As painters we tend to fall in love (or hate ) with our creations. That love, like all love- can blind us to whats really there and hurt us, as a good painting never has a chance to become great, because we didn't see it objectively.
What many of the great masters did, was simply put it away at this point and look at it later with fresh, objective eyes later. You'll be amazed at what you will see later. Thats because you are now seeing it as your audience will. You've distanced yourself from it and now really see it as it truly is.

Try this if you haven't and see if your art doesn't come up a notch. Thats exactly what I'm going to do with this one now.
Ill post it here in my gallery when I've signed it. (and get a great photograph)

I agree with you Maxx! Puting the painting away for some time is a very good way to improve one´s art. Each time I did so I was amazed by the results. Will do so more often in future. Another great way to see an imaga in a freh and more objective way is to check it in a mirror! - Did you ever try it? Well, I did last time and wow, I found some "missing" brushstrokes which I could easily add then. With kind regards Mario
