Focusing My Energy On Making Art Series Categories

focusing my energy on making art series categories

my head is spinning on how many ways you can match art up in a series. by content OR by colors/shapes/texture etc. many different ways to arrange "series" of art that relate to each other. to me, all my work connects, certain colors and shapes repeat no matter what the content of my photo or drawing is.

my main categories of photos: self portraits, urban decay, shadows, reflections, nature, animals, photos fused with painting, abstract designs (not photography but drawing and painting and printmaking)

finding it REALLY challenging choosing what to send to galleries as a sample of my work. i tend to want to show my versatility and yet i am told what they want is a series of very similar pieces. that is fine but i cannot seem to choose what category i want to make into a series. (i could do several different series) i THRIVE on variety. i do have "best" pics in EACH separate category. it's just CHOOSING what category of good images to show them!

i have several 1000 photos on my hard drive it seems. so many folder from the last few years of taking photos. editing the best ones. way behind on this....

seems the task for me is to decide what kind of "series" themes i can have of my photos and then my paintings and organize them together as one COHESIVE body of work and then write a couple paragraphs about what my symbols are in my art.

serendipity on my walk today: ran into an artist who i had just talked to online about a project we might do in early 2015. cannot say anything about the project- but wanted to share the synchronicity.

having a focused cohesive body of work is a good thing for an artist. i do have categories of photos and a series in each that could be shown together. my abstract designs and my photography are my two main bodies of work.

i have submitted my art to three galleries and i have a show to enter 6 pieces into. 3 photos, 3 paintings. then i might seek more coffee shops to show it etc. wherever i can show for free i will do it. get my work circulating in the world and keep sharing it online as much as a i can also.

anyone who wants to share a list of galleries near seattle for me to submit my art to let me know! thanks! i am googling now too for this as well. any support appreciated. thanks.

looking for alternative galleries in seattle to submit my work to. also looking for any show to enter that is free with no submission fee. i showed for years at a non juried gallery where you pay to hang so wanna try something new now. any help appreciated! thanks! http://shannonkringen.livejournal.com/2942347.html
