Flores de Papel

Feliz Día de la Madres, Mamá!. (Happy Mother's Day, Mom!)

Flores de Papel, or Paper Flowers, is a simple photo I took in my mother's shop in Nogales, Sonora, México in late August, 2003. My mother Esthela handmade these flowers. She and my Aunt Ofelia must have made hundreds, if not thousands, of them in their lifetime. The group of flowers reminds me how hard and how much my mother has worked throughout her life to serve everybody in the family. The different colors signify her many talents and gifts she always blessed us with. To this day she is still going strong helping to raise her great-grandchildren and continuing to be an example to all of us in the family. Thank You Mom for everything you have done, thank you today, thank you always.

This photograph is, as you might have figured out by now, a very sentimental photograph for me. I pray that you too will have the opportunity to take, cherish, and share your own special photographs.
