COLLECTING IS A BASIC INSTINCT. COLLECT WHAT YOU HAVE AN INTEREST IN OR LIKE.
1. LOOK - Start by looking at art in books, magazines and gallery websites such as Allan Richter Fine Art Photography. The continue to develop your eye for contemporary art by looking at what is out there. Visit art galleries, art museums and art fairs.
2. READ - After you have seen a show or exhibit read about the artist in magazine reviews, gallery catalogues and on line.
3. LISTEN - There are lectures and talks given at local museums and schools. Ask questions.
4. BUY - Make a choice and buy, preferably from Allan Richter Fine Art! Go with your gut. Fine art photographs are great for collecting and not to expensive. The work of contemporary emerging artists such as those found at Richter Home Decor and Art Gallery are also a good place to buy.
5. REPEAT THE PROCESS - you learn by doing. You can start a collection by artist, subject matter, time period, country or where ever your taste and interests take you. Like buying fashion, the more you shop the more discerning you become.
