Experiment with Spray Paint and Texture

I recently bought the Spray Paint & Texture kit from Liquitex Professional® at my local craft store to experiment with Impasto painting techniques. “Impasto”, as defined in the kits booklet, “is a painting technique that uses a brush or knife loaded with paint to create bold textures that stand out in relief.” I had never done any type of Impasto painting before and I thought that it would be fun and help to get some creative juices flowing. It’s nice every once and a while to just create something without really knowing what direction your art is going in and this kit was a huge success. There isn’t really step by step instructions for this kit, but the booklet provided an explanation of each item that was included and what they could be used for. For example, the Super Heavy Gesso “creates thick sculptural applications and can be mixed with acrylic color.” You can see on my artwork where I used the Super Heavy Gesso (in the bottom left side portion) to create the really interesting texture. I mixed my own acrylic colors into the artwork along with the spray paint that was provided in the kit. In the top right portion of the artwork I used the kit’s Ceramic Stucco and Gloss Heavy Gel with one of my stencils to create the dimensional pattern. I'm not as pleased with the top right portion as I am with the bottom left portion, but as they always say "practice makes perfect" and it was just nice to broaden my horizons a bit and try something new!
