Often at the week end in the summer months, armed with my easel and paints, I would take my two dogs to walk along the Dorset coast. After a brisk walk along the cliffs the dogs would happily play in the water while I set up my easel to sketch the landscape. This painting at Ringstead bay followed a series of sketches that I was working on, the sun was beginning to go down and the calm water was gently lapping the stones. Impressed by the silver sea as the light changed, I quickly caught the moment with colour before the sun disappeared. The oil painting was later worked on and finished in my studio from the sketches.
