Drive by Shootings...Do not let being infirm stop you...

Because I am a bit infirm as I creep into my dotage, I had to reinvent the way I could be a street photographer. I simply can’t walk far or fast, or fast or far.

Then, as if a gift from the gods, I read an article about a New York taxi driver who (yep you guessed it) took candid photographs of people from his taxi.

Seems Mr. David Bradford also has made a name for himself with his photographs taken while driving his taxi.

I’ve seen him being interviewed on CBS “Sunday Morning.” He was talking about his new book “Drive-By Shootings,” which was released internationally this May, and has been selling strongly ever since.

So, I said to myself, if Mr. Bradford can do it, I can also. For the past two months, I have been driving about the city and taking candid images of people. Results? Wow, I am very pleased with the results.

I could never ever capture the candid people images I am now bringing home with me if I were just walking about. Just not possible.

Oh, I don’t photograph while the car is moving. As Mr. Bradford tells us....Bradford: Number one you have to make sure that you don’t impair the driving at all, otherwise don’t do it.

I photograph while stopped at a red light, or I pull over to the curb and photograph the folks as they walk by.

Good points...Bad points...
“Being able to transverse miles in one day or night, whereas walking you couldn’t do that. The downside-missing a shot because I was going too fast.”
