As a painter for several years, I found referring to myself as an artist to be intimidating early in my career. It has taken several years of classes, practice, group exhibits and interaction with other art professionals to build my confidence. With each painting, I see artistic development, and I believe, from seeing this growth, reinforces one to live and breathe, as their artistic creativity evolves. They are an artist. They are speaking to others from the depth of their soul by their artwork.

This article touched me to the heart. Thank you for taking the time to write it. I can relate to the daily struggle this lady portrays. I'm encouraged to 'fake it till I make it" too. I will start today by saying "I am an artist" as I work on my canvas. Hopefully, my heart and mind will catch up. Thanks again.

I cannot identify with being an artist either. "Doodler" and "drawer", yes. Artist? No. It isn't just about skill, I feel there is a list of opinions, attitudes, and obligations that come with that title and none of them really fit me. While I may live up to the skill, I don't feel I live up to the other parts. Most discredit me anyway because I didn't waste a lot of money on school to learn what I currently know, and that is one obligation I will never attempt to fulfill.
