Cyanotype Acrylic Medium

Cyanotype art

Today I decided to try some cyanotype printing using a paper negative. I used simply copy paper and it turned into a massive failure of capturing the paper negative. I’ve since used Adoramapix.com to get myself some photographic paper printed of my negatives instead. While I wait for that I decided to do a bit of experimenting. I planned on doing some glass plate cyanotypes and have the gelatin emulsion ready to go.

But gelatin emulsions got me to thinking. Using acrylic medium instead of gelatin I decided to mix the cyanotype chemicals in matte acrylic finish. The problem I had with my initial test of doing cyanotypes on a primed canvas was the chemicals beaded and rolled off the canvas. Using the medium proved to garner some favorable results in the form of staying on the canvas.

Along with that the chemicals remained sensitive and began to color under direct sunlight in minutes. At the moment it is now being toned in coffee and more stencils are being cut out, my aim is to achieve a multi colored cyanotype with yellow, blues, and browns.

Stay tuned for some results in the coming weeks.

I would also like to mention I currently have a promotional code which allows 20% off any prints found in my printshop. You can find my site at www.ttlgphoto.com, promo code AHGMJV for 20 percent off.

Thank you and keep looking through the looking glass,

Keo Mitchell
